The Exposure Of Various Social Issues In The Hate U Give

George Tillman Jr. was a critically acclaimed director. His film, “The Hast U Give” went on to be a huge success. Based on Angie Thomas’s bestseller, Tillman’s story tells of Starr Carter (16 years old) who lives in two worlds. Williamson Prep is her preparatory white school, while Garden Heights is her poor black neighborhood. Her struggle to find balance between the two worlds was hard. The day Kahlil was brutally killed by police officers was the turning point. Starr is forced to speak out against all the injustices in her community and face pressures quickly. This mirrors the current society’s authenticity of racial inequalities that are daily found on suburban streets and in suburban shopping malls. Tillman asserts that America’s divide is racial prejudice. This movie is a hit because of Carter’s ability and willingness to speak up and take action. People of color continue being victims to racism, gun violence, and racial profilers in today’s society. Despite all the education efforts.

George Tillman Jr. incorporates different aspects of daily life into his movie. Starr Carter is on a journey through her life, as she attempts to figure out who she is following the death of her best friend Khalil. April Ofrah is an activist who approaches Starr to attend Khalil’s funeral. Persuading her, Starr invites her on a rally honoring Khalil to join them. Starr attempts to understand why the world is so unfair as she protests the film. Our society today is failing us. We are constantly confronted with racial disparity every day. Tillman’s work ensures that viewers see a different America. Tillman hopes to show the viewer the unbalanced scales and justice. Starr and Tillman both seek retribution. But, such retribution is not forthcoming. Police shootings, racist comments, and underrepresentation all prove that people of color are entitled to more than the society offers. The film “The hate you give,” clearly shows the injustice of police brutality. This film is intended to help the Just Us for Justice campaign. April Ofrah is an activist lawyer who gives Starr the opportunity to voice her opinion against injustice in her community. Tillman makes this pitch to black communities to get involved in movements like Black Lives Matter so that their voices can be heard. Naomi Schaeffer Riley from the New York Post, who is a film reviewer, points out however that this opinion is given without any concern for statistical evidence. She says, “in future years, (The Hate You Gift) will inevitably be required reading in high school, colleges, and universities across America. “Students will receive a kind of fictional confirmation from the academic Left, the media, guilty white Liberals about the racist nation they inhabit.” (Riley). Starr’s film explores many aspects of racism and shows images of young black women. Hollywood is a very diverse place, and so are people of color. This movie does the right thing again. That is why it was recognized. The movie portrays gun violence through the use of a gun. Starr’s childhood pal Khalil was gunned down by a policeman who mistook his hairbrush for an actual firearm. Tillman’s indictment of white police officers who were so willing to pull the trigger on a black civilian is the film. Starr watched helplessly as this act unfolded. Starr watched helplessly as the act unfolded. ScootScoop.com states that it is not unusual for people from color to be shot by police officers, or to die in mass shootings. These topics have become commonplace, so they are often dismissed as “another shot.” (ScootScoop.com) George Tillman Jr. did not spare any details of the shooting or the events that ensued, in order for viewers to get a more personal and authentic experience.

Starr is a campaigner to eliminate police brutality. It is still something that I feel strongly connected with, her desire to improve this society.

The movie features police brutality. Starr’s parents Maverick, Lisa and Khalil are concerned about their children’s safety because of their race. The parents give their children the talk about how to interact with police officers, as well as why black Americans feel so angry against corruption. Starr recalls his father telling him that he once taught him that black people have a rage against the corrupt system. The rage began when the slave masters started hurting their families. Daddy also told me that it was dangerous to activate this rage. For a person from a color background, this could be a matter if they know how to behave when confronted by an officer. Brody states that the siblings were taught to surrender to any officer who snuck up on them. In a world where black people are quickly viewed as dangerous, these steps are essential.

Today’s society has to deal with issues such as racial profiling and gun violence. The “The Love U Give” movie was filled with deceitful acts that glorified hate. Starr witnessed a friend get shot and killed by a police officer. This is how racial profiling and gun violence are shown. Starr’s entire life was changed by these topics. Starr’s story by Tillman is riveting and allows viewers to experience a completely new way of looking at the world.
